On May 20, Tuesday, researchers and professors from CLAM\/IMS\/UERJ, Jane Russo and Marina Fisher, will present the open lecture \u201c\u2018Ocitocinadas\u2019: nature, gender, science, and morality in discourses on motherhood, childbirth, and breastfeeding,\u201d at 2:00 p.m., in room 7001, Block E, at the Institute of Social Medicine, UERJ (7th floor).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CLAM Seminars, promoted by the Latin American Center on Sexuality and Human Rights (CLAM\/IMS\/UERJ), bring together students, researchers, and others interested in the themes of gender, sexuality, and human rights to create a space for learning and information exchange based on academic work aligned with the Center\u2019s mission. The meetings are held in person and no prior registration is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOcitocinadas\u201d: nature, gender, science, and morality in discourses on motherhood, childbirth, and breastfeeding<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstract:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this presentation, we will reflect on the ideology of the humanized childbirth movement and the construction of a new meaning assigned to motherhood. In this ideology, composed through a bricolage of science and alternative worldviews, motherhood is understood as a fundamentally bodily experience that unfolds primarily in and through the mother\u2019s body. Therefore, it is an experience that focuses mainly on pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, encompassing \u201cnatural birth,\u201d exclusive, prolonged, and on-demand breastfeeding. Thus, we will seek to reflect on the intersections between gender, nature, science, and morality in this conception of motherhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
