CLAM – EN

Pre-LASA forum

Under the title of “Sexualities, social movements and academia”, CLAM and LASA’s Sexuality Studies Section are organizing a day-long event to debate sexual politics research and interventions in Brazil. Wednesday, June 10, 10am to 6pm, at UERJ.

Organized by the Latin American Center on Sexuality and Human Rights (CLAM), at the Institute of Social Medicine, State University of Rio de Janeiro (IMS/UERJ), in association with the Sexuality Studies Section of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA), on the occasion of the XXVIII LASA International Congress (11-14 June, 2009), this day-long pre-conference will address Brazilian trajectories of political mobilization and social research on sexuality.

The morning panels will address a collective history of engagement in the constitution of a field of intellectual inquiry and militant intervention, in times of dictatorship, democratization, emergence of social movements, protest, and institutionalization. Another focus will be the transit and connections between science and politics, among a singularly thriving community of researchers, activists and policymakers. Finally, the afternoon forum will be open to presentations of on-going intervention projects on sexual politics.

Note: sessions will be held in Portuguese.

When: Wednesday, June 10, 9am to 6pm
