Call for papers: Technoscience, bodies, gender and sexuality

Science and technology configure themselves as dispositives that produce truths and interventions in the world, particularly in bodies. Themes as gender and sexuality announce how much those processes are permeated by tensions and political relations. In this number, we intend to publish papers based on empirical researches and/or theoretical approaches, which analyze how gender permeate the production of scientific knowledge, as well as its implications in the production of conventions and interventions about the issues in question.

We strongly encourage the submission of papers that argue about sociopolitical aspects of technoscience in the definition of legitimacies or regulatory ideas (normalities and/or aspects classified as natural/biological), which affect the daily existence of people, supporting prejudices and producing hegemonies and stigmas related to gendered bodies; papers that discuss the daily production of scientific knowledge, its divulgation and its repercussions in people’s lives; investigations about biotechnological interventions (surgical, endocrinal/hormonal, protein-based) over sexual, reproductive and gendered bodies. We also encourage contributions that document and analyze agencies related to the appropriation of biotechnological interventions in the production of bodily transformations, especially if they evidence dissociations in the conventional relations between bodies, gender and sexuality.

The number will be edited by Dr. Daniela Manica (UFRJ) and Dr. Martha Ramírez-Gálvez (UEL).

The submissions must be sent until February, 14, 2015 through the journal website or by e-mail: mediacoes@uel.br
