The book Toda Feita, by anthropologist Marcos Benedetti, PhD candidate and researcher at NUPACS/UFRGS, addresses recent transformations in the social world of travestis. The author analyzes the main processes created and experienced by travestis to make viable their project of becoming women, focusing on the fabrication of femininity on the body. “The body of travestis is, above all, a language; it is on the body and through it that the meanings of femininity and masculinity are materialized and confer social qualities on the person. It is through the body that travestis produce themselves as subjects,” says Benedetti.
To deepen his understanding of the meanings behind the practices and interventions on the bodies of travestis who engage in sex work, the author employed the ethnographic method, living alongside them in various situations, visiting them both in places of prostitution and in their homes.
