Maria Clara Gama holds a PhD in Sociology from the Institute of Social and Political Studies at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (IESP/UERJ), a Master’s in Sociology from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and a BA in Social Sciences from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). She is currently a PROATEC fellow at the Latin American Center on Sexuality and Human Rights at the Institute of Social Medicine of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (CLAM / IMS / UERJ). She was previously a postdoctoral fellow (PDJ/CNPQ) in the Graduate Program in Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGSA/IFCS/UFRJ). She is currently a researcher associated with the Center for Studies on Sexuality and Gender (NESEG / IFCS / UFRJ) and the Center for Studies on Social Theory and Latin America (NETSAL / IESP / UERJ). She has worked as a professor at IFCS / UFRJ, PUC / MG and FUMEC University. She worked at the Social Development Secretariat of the Municipality of Belo Horizonte / MG. She has experience in Political Sociology, concentrating mainly on the following topics: sexuality, LGBTQIA + rights (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transvestites, Transsexuals, Queers, Intersex, Asexuals and other sexual minorities) and National Congress.
