Mauro Brigeiro

MAURO BRIGEIRO

Ph.D. in Social Anthropology (2021) from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), having completed a doctoral exchange in Portugal at the Department of Anthropology of the University Institute of Lisbon – ISCTE. Holds a Master’s degree in Public Health (2000) from the Institute of Social Medicine at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (IMS/UERJ), with a concentration in Human Sciences and Health. Has experience as a professor and researcher in Brazil and Colombia, working in the fields of anthropology, gender studies, and aging. Since 2015, he has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Education in Environment and Health (LEAS) at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC), FIOCRUZ, with a scholarship from FAPERJ’s rated by 10 Postdoctoral Program. He is also a substitute professor in the Department of Public Health at UNIRIO. Is an associate researcher at the Latin American Center on Sexuality and Human Rights (CLAM) at IMS/UERJ, collaborating on regional projects and, between 2015 and 2016, as a professor in the Specialization Course in Gender and Sexuality. Was a substitute professor at the Institute for Collective Health Studies (IESC) at UFRJ, between 2013 and 2014. Was affiliated as a professor at the National University of Colombia (UNAL), initially between 2002 and 2003, supporting the master’s program in “Discapacidad e Inclusión Social” of the “Facultad de Medicina” and later, between 2003 and 2010, as a professor assigned to the “Departamento de Antropología” and the “Escuela de Estudios de Género,” working in undergraduate and graduate programs. Also in Bogotá, was a professor at the “Escuela de Medicina y Ciencias de la Salud” at Universidad del Rosario in 2003 and 2019, and at the Corporación Universitaria Iberoamericana between 2002 and 2004. Is a member of the Latin American Network of Gerontology, based in Chile and with regional activities, where he has collaborated as a consultant on editorial and social development projects. Has conducted research on the following topics: sexuality, gender, life course, aging management, biomedicalization, and the relationships between science, nature, and culture.
